‘Whose Diabetes is it’ project aimed to design innovative clinic services to better support self-management in young people with diabetes type 1. When working with families and young people researcher used creative design workshops to design an innovative service that focuses on young people’s whole lives rather than just when they use health services; bring together clinical expertise from inside the national health system (NHS) and expertise in living with diabetes from outside of the NHS. Project explored new and more appropriate ways of interacting with a service that is closer to teenage lifestyles by utilizing digital tools like text messaging and social networking websites. The outputs of this project were firstly digital tools and printed materials that enable teenagers and their families to access help and support more easily. And secondly project proposes visions of systems and services that would reduce the impact of diabetes type 1 on young people’s lives and increase their independence in the future.
